Pooja unit in Taramandal

A pooja unit in etched glass, backlit so the arch and the bells read as light rather than as a printed panel.

The design journey

How this one came together

The brief was a mandir that looked built rather than bought. It was drawn as a backlit arch with a Ganesh motif and hanging bells, framed in wood, with drawers underneath for everything a daily puja needs and jali panels either side.

It was built in etched glass rather than painted board. The motif is cut into the glass at different depths, so with the light behind it the arch, the bells and the figure all glow at slightly different strengths. On a flat panel the same drawing would have looked like a sticker.

Etched glass panel, lit from behind. Wood frame with jali side panels and drawers below the ledge.
